SRC will play in the Suburban Hunter Rugby Divisional of the NHRU in 2023!

Dear Members and Sponsors,

I am writing this letter to you to acknowledge your ongoing support and contribution to the Club over the years and give you an update regarding the Club.

Following a lot of P1 players dropping out of football this year our Club had applied to enter only P2 and P3 teams in the HRU Premier Division competition. This did look like it may have been favourable but now with Nelson Bay in a similar situation both Clubs now will be in the First Division competition in 2023, albeit Singleton Bulls will have 2 teams while Nelson Bay has dropped back to 1 team.

Jackson Walsh is coaching the 1st XV team (Singleton Red), while Nathaniel Edwards will coach our 2nd XV team (Singleton Black). There has also been some interest shown in playing in the HRU Social 4’s competition on Friday nights, but we will see how the numbers are for this to come into fruition.

We have attached the 1st Division draw to this letter so you can see when we play at home at Rugby Park, they will be double-headers with both our teams competing against other Clubs and we are attempting to get Newcastle Hunter Juniors to align our U18 team to play before the 2nd XV game when possible.

The Club is aiming for this to be just a 1 year event in the First Division competition and it has been encouraging that the HRU and other Clubs are offering support for us to get back to the Premier competition in 2024.

Off the field, we are hoping to start off our ‘Lunch with a Legend’ series in May 2023, just confirming the guest speaker. Further correspondence will be sent out once this is confirmed.

Our Bar Manager Jodie is doing a great job in promoting the Club facilities as a venue for meetings, conferences and training, which has seen it being used on a weekly basis.

We have been successful with further NSW and Federal Government grants for the ‘fit-out’ of our new grandstand, including a chair lift, which will see all of the grandstand facilities completed. The Grandstand has two change-rooms, canteen, can bar, gym/rehab area, first aid room and toilets below the 430 seat stand.

The new Amenities Block in the Club allows for both internal and external access to these facilities, plus allows the existing downstairs Clubhouse to have more floor space available for functions, such as ‘Lunch with a Legend’.

It is our intention to distribute Club news to our Members throughout the year via the emails and on our website. If we do not have your preferred email address, please send it to our Club Secretaries email address - secretary@singletonrugbyclub.com.au .

We are always looking for suggestions or ideas that can help the Club and would welcome any comments from yourself .

Lastly, the SRC Board would like to thank the work by Lahey’s Constructions, Valleywide Electrical, Invent Air, Hedweld, Myne Signs and Golden Edge Homes on the excellent work carried out on our new Grandstand and Amenities buildings. Also, the Club volunteers who assisted where they could.

Thanks and hope to see you at the footy.

Regards,

Shane Thompson
